Il sodalizio tra Retrophobic e la Northern Star Records mi permette di poter recensire in super anterprima questo nuovo progetto a piu' nomi, che chiude il discorso "Psychedelica" (arrivato ormai al terzo volume) e apre la "rivoluzione nel suono". Il roster e la proposta sonora dell'etichetta di Londra si stanno allargando come a voler abbracciare in una volta sola tutti i trecentosessanta gradi dell'"evasione psichedelica" moderna. Revolution In Sound e' un sampler di 17 bands, tutte di un'eccellente qualita', ciascuna con la sua differente identita'. Tutta la "materia" e' tuttavia affine, come se l'idea psichedelica della Northern Star fosse una citta' e ciascuna band affiliata fosse una stazione della sua ipotetica metropolitana. Quindi ci sono gli alti in saturazione di marchio Jesus And Mary Chain a spasso con i ritmi "motorici" dei Neu!, l'elettronica new wave, i synth, le chitarre con infinite serie di effetti, e il perpetuo riffage caro agli Spacemen 3. La varieta' dei suoni e' perfettamente misurata, e la scaletta incastra pezzi "rock" con tracce di confine, il tutto tra i sicuri confini della forma canzone. E cosi', accanto alle conferme (sontuoso il pezzo dei Nova Saints "Lights"), December Sound e Electric Mainline (col punk chimico di "All Too Much"), arrivano splendide novita' come i Delicasession (in bilico tra elettronica, ritmi, e una certa avanguardia "kraut"), Punk TV (la loro "Vala Svala" che sa di Air e Est Europa anni 70), Ursula Minor (con la loro sferragliante "Sick Fuzz"), Laboratory Noise ("You Created A Storm", grande botta!), Hot Zex (da Mosca, con un sound popedelic prima Creation Records), Youngteam (desertico sound per paesaggi invernali), Mint Ive (la loro "Paint A Picture Of The Broken Hearts" che strizza l'occhio ad Adorable e Catherine Wheel). Ce n'e' abbstanza per soddisfare orecchie e mente, e ciascuno dei gruppi meriterebbe una disamina. Il marchio "pop" della Northern Star garantisce lunga durata e immediatezza d'ascolto. Io per una settimana abbondante non ho ascoltato altro.

This frienship betrween Retrophobic and Northern Star Records allows me to review this new compilation as an exclusive advance. This new multiband project closes the "Psychedelica" file (with the third volume released) and opens up to the "revolution in sound". The roster and the sonic coordinates of London's label are broadening around 360 degrees, embracing all the fields of modern psychedelic escapism. "Revolution In Sound" is a 17 bands sampler, and each band shows a different identity. All the "matters" inside belong to a common ground in their distinction, like if Northern Star was a big city, and each band was one of its underground station. We have the clipping trebles reminescent of The Jesus And Mary Chain, hand in hand with the "motorik" beats of Neu!, New Wave electronics, synths, infinite sequences of guitar pedals, and the perpetual riffage of the Spacemen 3. The variety of sounds is perfectly balanced, and the tracklist mixes rock tracks with more experimental tunes, and everything is safely wrapped within pop song structure. Beside the well known uber cool bands (Nova Saint's sumptuous "Lights"), December Sound and Electric Mainline (with the chemical punk of "All Too Much"), great news are coming over: Delicasession (dealing with electronica, beats, and some "kraut" avantgarde), Punk TV ("Vala Svala" perfumed with Air and 70s iron curtain sounds), Ursula Minor (with the buzzin' "Sick Fuzz"), Laboratory Noise ("You Created A Storm", yeah man!), Hot Zex (from Moscow, with a popedelic early Creation sound), Youngteam (desert sound for winter landscapes), Mint Ive ("Paint A Picture Of The Broken Hearts" blinking an eye to Adorable and Catherine Wheel). There's enough stuff to refresh ears and mind, each of the included bands deserves attention. Northern Star's "pop" trademark grants a long lasting and immediate listening.
